Founded in 1610, the Library of the Archbishops of Canterbury at Lambeth Palace is one of England's oldest public libraries. In addition to its papers relating to the Archbishops, the library is a repository for numerous archives from groups and individuals within the Church of England.

Of particular interest for local history are the records of the Incorporated Church Building Society, which administered grants for the building and restoration of churches from 1818 to 1982. At one time or another, almost all the churches in the Borough applied to the ICBS, and details of these are available here

See archive 2

The original applications frequently included plans and sketches of the church, which have been digitised, and can be seen on the website of the Library at www.lambethpalacelibrary.org.

We are grateful to Lambeth Palace Library for allowing us to put an abstract of its Epsom and Ewell material on this site.
